The name of this supercar, reclaiming the title of the fastest supercar, means peaks of the back in Maori language. The new supercar by SSC has the classic shape that permits the minimum drag and to rise up the glamour of the supercar, there are sleek dihedral stabilizers or wings. The carbon fiber body and chassis are just the perfect for the supercar. There are oval cutouts of various sizes to release the heat produced by the engine and an F1 looking exhaust as a diffuser in the rear makes the American supercar rather intimidating and apt for the supercar segment.  

The SSC Tuatara, designed by Jason Castriota is the second supercar by automaker to give a new dimension to its intensifying competition with Bugatti Veyron Super Sport for the title of Fastest Supercar. The actual version of the supercar will go for production and will be capable of producing 1350 horsepower with the V8 bespoke twin turbo engine of 7.0 liter. There will be sub-frame chassis of carbon fiber and one-piece carbon fiber wheels add up to the sporty dynamics of the car. Even though the images do not reveal the complete interiors, the supercar has a very futuristic yet organic look with the sleek and stylish supercar elements in it, unlike its predecessor, which looked more like a kit car than a supercar. To add up to the history of the new Supercar by SSC, the engine is said to be an all-new creation and not be the usual General Motor based like its fore bearer.

The Concept M5 is essentially 99 percent production ready, so don’t expect any surprises in terms of styling at the presentation of the production model at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. The highlight of the fifth generation of the M5 will be the new twin-turbocharged V8 engine lurking under the bonnet. BMW officials have already confirmed that the engine is a development of the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 555HP and 680Nm or 501 lb-ft of peak torque, tweaked to deliver more power. However, the German company is still keeping mum on output numbers. What BMW did disclose is that compared to the fourth generation of the M5’s 507HP V10 power unit, the newly developed V8 turbo has a significantly increased output level, whilst at the same time lowering previous fuel consumption and emission levels by at least 25 percent.

In the new M5, power is delivered to the rear wheels by a seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, which was specifically tuned to the new V8 engine’s performance characteristics. The M5 also gets an Auto Start Stop function.  BMW added that the F10 M5 will feature exclusive M suspension components such as the inter alia, the wheel suspension systems, specific axle kinematics as well as powerful and weight-optimised brakes. A new Active M Differential that optimises vehicle stability using targeted variation of locking torque between the right and left drive wheels, plus 20-inch forged alloy wheels shod tires size 265/35 ZR20 at the front and 265/35 ZR20 at the back, are also part of the package. As for the car’s exterior, BMW’s designers opted for a discrete appearance with a typical M-style front bumper, side gills on the front fenders, a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser that houses twin tailpipes on either side, and a barely visible boot lid spoiler.

Another new sports car brand has shown its face to the world. Mach7 Motorsports based in Michigan, USA – known as Viper tuner – presented itself at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Their main product is the newly developed Falcon, which is targeted at fifteen units per year. The sports car has an aluminum hydro-formed chassis with a carbon fiber monocoque. The standard powerplant is a Corvette LS3 V8 engine producing 500hp. Mach7 also offers the GM LS9 engine with 640hp.   

If you’ll recall, the Viper does 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 3.4 sec, 0–100 mph (0–160 km/h) in 7.6 sec, quarter mile in 10.92 sec @ 127.79 mph (205.66 km/h) and has a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).  With a a curb weight of 2850 lbs (1293 kg) these figures could be conservative considering the Viper with its 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) V10 weighed 3,460 lb (1,570 kg) in standard trim. Mach7 displayed an unfinalized prototype of the Falcon in Detroit was an unfinalized prototype. Figures are unavailable at this moment. Pricing of the Falcon is expected around $ 200,000 according to a company representative with first deliveries beginning before the end of the year.

Taking ATVs to their extreme, Romanian designer Andrus Ciprian has come up with an off-road vehicle named “Hummer HB” that removes both the front and the rear extensions for a clutter-free design. Featuring a body-on-frame format finished in aluminum and carbon fiber to make it lightweight yet powerful, the HB with its huge wheels makes commuting possible on almost all roads and terrains. Proposed in two different segments, one with a smaller windscreen split into three sections and an array of cameras to allow an enhanced projection and security to the driver, and the other version presenting a more conventional single frame windscreen with additional lighting mounted on the roof that is just ideal for the true off-roader.

Integrating a powerful winch to extract it or other vehicles from sticky situations, the HP also touts an armored paneling underneath, which not only protects the drivetrain but the passengers, from bumps on rocky terrains, as well. Moreover, the Hummer HB powers the V6 engine, propelling the wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, using bio-fuel to make all drives eco-friendly.
