The Porsche Boxster S Black Edition is a limited edition version of the Boxster S. All 987 examples feature the same black on black color scheme; and the model also nicely complements the 911 Black Edition model.The ‘Boxster S’ lettering painted in black on the rear luggage compartment lid identifies the model as does the embossed Black Edition logo on the side of the fabric hood. The roll-over bars are painted in black, together with the rear side air intake grilles and the twin tailpipe of the exhaust system.Inside the colorless theme continues with stainless steel door entry guards featuring the "Black Edition" logo. The standard, three-spoke Sport Design steering wheel has a black leather rim. The trim strips of the dashboard and of the gear shift lever or PDK selector are painted in black. The dials on the instrument cluster are black, as are the partial leather sports seats. Even the windows are painted black… Wait, sorry, no they’re still clear.

Powering the Porsche Boxster S Black Edition is a 3.4 litre flat-six engine which produces 320 hp @ 7,200 rpm and 370 Nm of torque @ 4,750 rpm. That’s a 10 hp improvement over the standard Boxster S, enough to reduce the 0-62 mph (100km/h) sprint by 1/10th of a second to 5.2 seconds when equipped with the standard six-speed manual. When the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is fitted the 0-62 mph time drops to 5.1 seconds. If the Sports Chrono Package Plus with launch control option is also added then its even quicker, taking just 4.9 seconds to reach 62 mph. Comfort and convenience is also enhanced for the Boxster S Black Edition with standard features including anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor, cruise control and a climate control system. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including satellite navigation module is also standard. In addition, the universal audio interface offering MP3 player compatibility and Bluetooth mobile phone preparation are also standard. The Sound Package Plus is standard, and Bi-Xenon headlamps with dynamic cornering lights and LED daytime running lights help light up dark roads. As an option, the Boxster S Black Edition can be customised even further with other options. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are an option, as well as the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and the adaptive sports seats with memory function.

The Caterham-Lola SP300R is a sports prototype racing car for a new one-make series and trackday enthusiasts – although a road-legal version is also being considered.
The SP300R was developed with the help of Lola Cars, who are respected around the world for their expertise in racecar design and engineering.Only 25 SP/300Rs will be manufactured each year, allowing Caterham to concentrate on improving the build quality of every car, and also maintain a close relationship with their customers.

Drivetrain
Powering the Caterham-Lola SP300R is a Caterham-tuned, supercharged version of Ford’s 2.0L Duratec engine. Thanks to the supercharger and additional modifications, the engine fitted to the SP300R produces 300hp, while also providing a linear torque delivery across the entire rev range.The transmission is handled by a Hewland semiautomatic FTR transmission which transmits the power to the rear wheels.Thanks to the incredibly light overall weight, coupled with the potent drivetrain, the SP300R can reach 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Top speed is 170 mph.

Chassis
The basic chassis of the Caterham-Lola SP300R is an aluminium tub with a longitudinally mid-mounted engine, coupled to a stress-bearing rear transaxle. A forward splitter and large rear wing reduce lift, while a flat underbody maximizes ground effect benefits. With the styling aerodynamically, rather than aesthetically led, the SP/300.R has been designed using Lola’s state-of-the-art CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technology, with input and design decisions from Caterham. One trademark Caterham design cue is the Seven-style rectangular grille located beneath the nose of the car. The SP/300.R bodywork also features an F1-style raised nose section and sectioned panels, which will help reduce repair costs, ease maintenance and, importantly, allow single-handed removal of body panels track-side.

Suspension
The Caterham-Lola SP/300.R features a full race suspension setup including; front and rear dual wishbones with pushrod dampers, adjustable ride height and bespoke wheels and tires. The rear suspension architecture is derived from that used on the Lola Formula 3 and World Junior cars.

Safety Features
In order to comply with MSA safety regulations the Caterham-Lola SP300R hosts a number of safety features. The main component of the car’s safety system is the integrated roll cage, this has been designed specifically for the car and it is incorporated neatly into the styling.

               It seems that just a few years ago air bags in cars were exotic. Today their numbers in some models are up to 10. At first glance, it’s a simple bag made of a smooth, elastic synthetic material. But the fabric of an airbag needs to be very thin and strong, during the accident even the smallest stitches should not not be in the contact area with driver’s face and body. The cushion should’nt also become a trampoline, it must be able to ease the gas pressure on time. In fact, many manufacturers have ceased to sew pillows using the fabric that breaks letting the air out. When packing the airbag they put talc powder to prolong the cushion’s life.

The number of embedded airbags is growing rapidly. Just recently, the car with two airbags was considered as luxury and now having a dozen would not surprise an average driver. All bags are working on one principle but there are many differences. For example, the driver cushions size ranges between 60 and 80 liters, while the passenger needs a much bigger 130-160 liter volume. Side impacts are often no less dangerous than frontal. Naturally, the car manufacturers could not leave it unnoticed over the past 10 years and many cars got their side-bags. They are much smaller than the frontal airbags, the volume ranges from 15 to 25 liters. There are also different forms. Along with the conventional «mushroom type», there are extended "long rollers" in the shoulder area and "inflatable shutters", reliably protecting the head of the driver and rear passengers. You can more and more often find a pillow under the front panel or on the floor as the driver’s and passenger’s legs should also be protected. And the last invention of "Toyoda Gosei" are the cushions to protect pedestrians. Two rollers fired from the radiator grills and a slit between the hood and windshield, designed to minimize the damage of adult pedestrians, and children.Airbags for motorcycles and scooters are already installed by the customer’s request, in Italy for example, perhaps soon, and they will be widely used on all motorcycles.

Interesting facts about airbags:

* Passenger airbag is usually twice as big as the driver’s due to the greater distance from the dashboard.
* To make an airbag fill up the full volume it needs 25-50 m/sec (for a comparison an eye blink takes about 100 m/sec)
* Airbag opening speed reaches 320 km/h
* "Renault" car maker installs a small airbag in frontal part of the driver’s seat to prevent diving under the seat belt.
