CT Umbra was part of the Lexus debate series tour called ‘Darker side of Green’, and the installation brings forth two of vehicle’s features – luxury and eco friendliness by changing colors from luxurious gold hues to organic tints of green and blue.</p>

<p>The sculpture is based on a map of vertical lines created from a CAD model of the CT 200h. It is built of 2500 anodized aluminum bars that are half inch thick and are cut to the exact measurement of the map. And to give the glow effect on the car sculpture, the tip of each bar is painted with yellow mica on one side and blue-green on the other.</p>

Featuring a never seen before construction method, this car of the future is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system which drives two electric motors turning the rear wheels. Materials that make up the car are d3o and metal rubber </p>
<p>&#160;<a href="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira1_gHCsB_24429.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-right: 0px" border="0" alt="concept electric car lotus esira" src="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira1_gHCsB_24429_thumb.jpg" width="454" height="315" /></a> </p>
<p> <span id="more-2352"></span>
<p><a href="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira2_ViNfe_24429.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-right: 0px" border="0" alt="concept electric car lotus esira" src="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira2_ViNfe_24429_thumb.jpg" width="454" height="325" /></a> </p>
<p>The d3o is a non-Newtonian material that usually behaves like a rubbery gel, but when struck immediately turns into an extremely sturdy solid. So, this material could give the passengers great protection during an accident. The metal rubber can be stretched and molded like rubber, making the bodywork react to the movement of the suspension system. </p>
<p><a href="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira3_XrVks_24429.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-right: 0px" border="0" alt="concept electric car lotus esira" src="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira3_XrVks_24429_thumb.jpg" width="454" height="328" /></a> </p>
<p>t is also capable of conducting electricity, giving the freedom to adjust the shape in accordance to the onboard computer. The body of the car can change shape while moving to keep the airflow as smooth as possible. The interior give a cockpit like feeling with a lever that looks more like the ejector seat handles of a fighter aircraft and helps to open the doors. I would certainly want to try my hands on this futuristic car’s wheel. </p>
<p><a href="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotusesiraconceptelectriccar4_1BiqA_11446.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-right: 0px" border="0" alt="concept electric car lotus esira" src="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotusesiraconceptelectriccar4_1BiqA_11446_thumb.jpg" width="454" height="342" /></a></p>
<p>Well, we need to wait until 2025 to see the electric concept car – pictured above – actually ruling the roads. Dubbed as Lotus Esira, the concept car focuses on shelving those extra pounds to ensure more performance each time you hit the road. The concept car is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell system, which drives two electric motors turning the rear wheels. Designer Jack Lamburn brings this out with an extremely supple, featherweight construction, which makes use of d3o, a non-Newtonian material, and the metal rubber. </p>
<p><a href="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira5_sx6xd_24429.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-right: 0px" border="0" alt="concept electric car lotus esira" src="http://carsworldblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lotus_esira5_sx6xd_24429_thumb.jpg" width="454" height="325" /></a>&#160; </p>
<p>While d3o initially acts like a rubbery gel, it hardens once it’s applied to ensure perfect solidity in the event of a crash. The ‘electrically conducive’ metal rubber is an ally to the movement of the suspension system. A tubular frame lends support to the bodywork that employs the already explained two components. The shape-shifting bodywork allows the air to flow freely and smoothly. Moreover, it changes shape to follow the angle of the wheels when the front wheels are turned. </p>
<p>The interior of the Lotus Esira makes use of carbon fiber for ensuring safety to driver and passengers. The doors flip open when the user pulls the lever placed under the seats. </p>
